The images in "Two Shanks", written by Daniel Keene, probe the abstract visual ideas circulating around the words of the script, their written appearance, and spoken meaning.

In her exhibition "...of script and facture...", Catherine Bainbridge's sequenced paintings - along with the accompanying short film - convey her interpretation of the script.

"Two Shanks": a collaboration by Daniel Keene (text) and Catherine Bainbridge (painting)

Cinematographer: Philippe Charluet, Stella Motion Pictures

Actor: Marco Chiappi

In memory of Lewis Fiander

My friend Lewis Fiander performed this play as part of the early 2000s Keene-Taylor project. I was particularly taken by the script and decided to work with it in collaboration with my own artwork.

These paintings result from observations of the natural world and the experiencing of the surrounding space. Sometimes, these are seen as grand overviews from the air, or as close-ups of tiny organisms and earth formations under magnification.

The observations are taken back to the studio, analysed, worked up and sequenced.
